Bassett/Barratt*

Bassett Cards 1

Bassett is a UK-based company that produces various kinds of sweets, and Barratt has issued sports cards and other trading cards since the 1950s.

Bassett partnered with Barratt for a Candy Sticks promotion around the time of The Two Towers. The product included one small-sized trading card (1.25″ x 2.5″) in each box of 10 candy sticks. The four different boxes and the four-pack bags featured special LOTR graphics. There were 32 cards in the set. The front of each card showed a different TTT character, and the backs formed a puzzle map of Middle-earth.

I have rarely seen these cards (either individual cards, lots, or full sets) on eBay in the US. They are regularly found on eBay UK, typically listed as in the Collectables section (subsection on Cigarette / Tea / Gum Cards). Only occasionally have I seen Barratt listed anywhere in the item title or description. It appears that the Lothlórien card is one of the most difficult to locate … it was the last one I needed, and I searched for months before I found a copy!
