The Two Towers Press Kits 2

Overview

The Two Towers basic digital press kit contains 2 discs. New Line released a separate third disc that focused on special effects (see next section).

Disk One is Photography (30 photos).

Disc Two is Special Materials. It includes sections on:

  • Characters (biographical sketches of 23 main heroes and villains, often with several photos and a short interview or film clip for each)
  • Gollum (6 photos, 2 film clips)
  • Helm’s Deep: Races, Weapons, and Armor (trailer clip, 2 general photos, and profiles of 7 cultures – most with up to 4 photos of weapons and/or armor)
  • Special Materials (1 viewable trailer, 2 logos, 2 maps, 2 key art posters, soundtrack information, and 82 pages of Production Notes)

Rarity and Value This Two Towers CD-ROM set is moderately rare. Although showing up only about as frequently as the Fellowship set, as best as I can recall, it typically runs in the range of $20 (2010).

Additional Digital Press Kit (CD-ROM) – Special Effects

The Two Towers Press Kits 3

Overview

Disk Three is primarily Special Effects Photography (77 photos – TIFs and JPEGs). It also includes biographical sketches of key artists and special effects designers: Alan Lee, Jim Rygiel, and Richard Taylor.

Rarity and Value This Two Towers “extra” disc has the reputation for being the rarest, most difficult to find of all 8 basic film release presskit CD-ROMs (2 for FOTR, 3 for TTT, 3 for ROTK). I would definitely agree. I don’t think I’ve seen a copy of it listed on eBay for at least 2 or 3 years (i.e., since about 2007). Meanwhile, I have seen all the other sets and individual extra discs on eBay in that period. I have also seen each of the 3 Digital Asset Kits in that time (TTT Theatrical, ROTK Theatrical, and ROTK Special Extended Edition). So, as best I can estimate, I would put its value at $75 as being on the low end of the probable price range if it happens to show up for auction anytime soon.
